Putteridge High School to join Barnfield
PUTTERIDGE High School is the latest addition to the ever-growing Barnfield Federation.
The Luton school has applied for academy status and will partner with Barnfield to join the outstanding provider’s all-through education model for children aged four to 18 years.
By becoming a Barnfield Sponsored Academy, Putteridge will gain access to the federal benefits of greater operational flexibility and scope for more innovative curriculum delivery, as well as enable the school to access the Federation’s numerous state-of-the-art facilities.
The new Academy, potentially named Barnfield East will provide a healthy, safe and caring environment, with excellent teaching and learning and a focus on exceptional student behaviour and attainment. Already excitement amongst staff and students is high, looking forward to positive changes the conversion will create.
As well as the current specialist status in maths and computing, the Putteridge Road school will also offer numerous extra-curricular activities and opportunities for seamless progression to the wider Barnfield Federation specialist educational model.
Barnfield Chief Executive Pete Birkett said: “Barnfield has a proven record of delivering successful and outstanding schools through working partnerships. Putteridge is a school with great potential and our single focus is to deliver excellent education for local students.
“We believe that the leadership and shared services the Federation can offer will drive achievement at Putteridge to reach an outstanding standard.”
An Open Evening will be held at Putteridge on Thursday, January 12, for parents and interested parties to find out more about what enhanced opportunities the new Academy will offer.
In March, Ofsted deemed Putteridge to be an "improving school" and in order to enhance opportunities for current students and the wider community, governors have decided to convert to an academy and join the Barnfield family.
Local schools and parents will be part of the statutory consultation process, if and when an academy order is approved.
Mr Bill Pollard, chairman of governors, said: “We are confident that with the support of the Barnfield Federation we are ensuring that our journey to outstanding is secure. The staff and students are excited at the prospect of the support and being part of an outstanding educational federation that is Barnfield.”Headteacher Mrs Helen Beauchamp said: “I am delighted that the Barnfield Federation and Putteridge staff, students, parents and governors are working together to ensure that we continue our journey of rapid improvement towards being an outstanding school.”
